Prescriptions

You are able to make requests for repeat prescriptions in the following ways:

  • Post your repeat slip into the prescriptions box located outside The Highlands surgery
  • Email your prescription request to gmicb-tameside.thehighlandssurgery@nhs.net
  • Post the repeat slip to us via Royal Mail
  • Ask your GP if you can go on repeat dispensing

Please allow two working days for repeat prescriptions to be processed before collecting your prescriptions.

At certain intervals, you may be asked to make an appointment to see the Doctor before your next repeat prescription can be issued. This is to review the progress of your medical condition and treatment.

Repeat prescriptions will NOT be given during consultation.

Some chemists offer repeat prescription dispensing and pick up services. Please ask your local chemist for information. Please only request the repeat medication you need for any particular month.

The surgery now offers electronic prescription services whereby the pharmacy can order the prescription electronically via the surgery. Patients will have to nominate a pharmacy to do this – please ask at reception or at the preferred pharmacy of choice. Patients can also order online prescriptions.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
