Appointments

Please ring the surgery or come to the reception desk should you require an appointment. Patients will be seen in surgery by appointment only. Our receptionists will ask you a few simple questions to ensure the most appropriate clinician sees you. Bookings are taken daily by telephone from 8.00-18.30 or you can call in to make an appointment. Routine appointments can be booked up to two weeks in advance; please ask the receptionist.

Our appointments are for one person only, if you and a relative both wish to see a Doctor please make two appointments. Our routine appointments are 10 minutes in length and urgent appointments are 5 minutes each: therefore only the urgent problem is dealt with at that time.

We are a group practice and you may see any of the Doctors, not just the one who you are registered with. During busy periods you may have to wait a few days to see the Doctor of your choice.

If your illness is of an urgent nature we will try our best to add you onto the Doctor’s list on the same day. When this happens please understand that your appointment is booked in as an extra appointment and therefore we can only attend to the urgent problem. If the Doctor deems your problem is not an urgent one you will be asked to make a routine appointment another time.

If you are unable to keep your appointment please let us know as soon as possible, so we can then offer the appointment to another patient.

Extended hours:

Extended hours are opening times outside our usual hours. We hold extended hours surgeries at the Highlands Surgery where appointments are 15 minutes in length and are bookable in advance. Telephone access during these times is not possible.

Our extended hours are:
Tuesdays 07:30-08:00 at the Highlands Surgery
Wednesdays 07:30-08:00 at the Highlands Surgery
Thursdays 07:30 to 08:00 at the Highlands Surgery
Home visits:

Home visits are triaged by the Doctors. If you feel that you are unable to attend the surgery please telephone by 10:30am so that a doctor is alerted to your needs. In the time it takes to do one visit we can see four patients in surgery where there are better facilities. We therefore ask that you only request home visits when it’s absolutely necessary.
